UPSC NDA Syllabus & Exam Pattern: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) NDA 2025 examination is designed to assess candidates’ academic knowledge, analytical abilities, and personality traits. • Written Examination:

• SSB Test/Interview:
  Candidates who qualify for the written examination will proceed to the Services Selection Board (SSB) Test/Interview. This stage is also evaluated for a total of 900 marks.

Notes:

• Objective Type Questions:
  All the papers in the written examination will consist of objective-type questions. Candidates will need to mark their responses on an OMR sheet.
• Medium of Examination:
  The question papers for Mathematics and Part “B” of the General Ability Test will be set bilingually in Hindi and English, providing flexibility to candidates from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

Penalty for Wrong Answers

1. Mark Deduction for Incorrect Responses
   • Each question has four alternatives, and selecting an incorrect option will result in a penalty.
   • One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
2. Penalty for Multiple Answers
   • If a candidate selects more than one option for a single question, it will be treated as a wrong answer, even if one of the selected answers is correct.
   • The same penalty of one-third (0.33) of the marks will apply in such cases.
3. No Penalty for Unanswered Questions
   • If a candidate does not attempt a question (i.e., leaves it blank), there will be no negative marking for that question.

UPSC NDA Syllabus 2025

The UPSC NDA 2025 Examination is designed to evaluate the academic knowledge and aptitude of candidates. Below is the detailed syllabus:

Paper-I: Mathematics (Code No. 01)

Maximum Marks: 300

1. Algebra
   • Sets: Concept of set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams, De Morgan laws, Cartesian product, relation, equivalence relation.
   • Real Numbers: Representation on a line, Complex numbers, modulus, argument, cube roots of unity.
   • Binary System: Decimal to binary conversion and vice-versa.
   • Progressions: Arithmetic, Geometric, Harmonic.
   • Equations: Quadratic equations, solution of linear inequations using graphs.
   • Permutations and Combinations: Concepts and applications.
   • Logarithms: Basic applications.
2. Matrices and Determinants
   • Types of matrices and operations.
   • Properties and applications of determinants.
   • Adjoint & Inverse: Solving systems of linear equations using Cramer’s rule and Matrix Method.
3. Trigonometry
   • Angles (degrees and radians), trigonometric ratios, identities, and formulas (sum, difference, multiple, and sub-multiple angles).
   • Applications: Height and distance problems, properties of triangles.
4. Analytical Geometry (2D and 3D)
   • Rectangular Cartesian Coordinate system.
   • Formulas and equations: Line, circle, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, and conics.
   • 3D Geometry: Points, lines, planes, spheres, direction cosines, and direction ratios.
5. Differential Calculus
   • Functions: Domain, range, graphs, limits, continuity, and derivatives.
   • Applications: Maxima and minima, increasing and decreasing functions.
   • Algebraic operations on continuous functions.
6. Integral Calculus and Differential Equations
   • Integration: Methods and applications, including area calculation.
   • Differential Equations: Order, degree, general/particular solutions, growth and decay problems.
7. Vector Algebra
   • Magnitude, direction, and operations: addition, scalar multiplication, dot product, and cross product.
   • Applications: Work and moments.
8. Statistics and Probability
   • Statistics: Data classification, graphical representation (histogram, pie chart), measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), variance, standard deviation.
   • Probability: Events, theorems, conditional probability, Bayes’ theorem, random variables, and binomial distribution.

Paper-II: General Ability Test (Code No. 02)

Maximum Marks: 600

The General Ability Test is divided into two parts:

Part A: English

Maximum Marks: 200

• Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT): Candidates observe a picture and narrate a story based on their perception.
• Shortlisting: Selection is based on combined performance in OIR Tests and PP&DT.

Stage II

Conducted over four days, it includes:

• Interview: Personal interaction with the Interviewing Officer (IO).
• Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks: Team-oriented tasks to assess cooperation, leadership, and problem-solving.
• Psychology Tests: Situational and thematic evaluations to analyze mental processes and behavior.
• Conference: Final assessment based on cumulative performance in the above tests.

Assessment Process

The candidate’s personality is assessed by the IO, GTO, and Psychologist with no individual weightage for each test. Final recommendations are made holistically, factoring in performance across all activities.
